英文摘要PURPOSE:To enable a laser diode to be replaced before an automatic light quantity control mechanism stops operating normally by a method wherein a life detection circuit outputs a warning signal corresponding to the degree of deterioration of the laser diode by comparing the output voltage of a control circuit with a reference voltage. CONSTITUTION:A life detection circuit is composed of a first comparator 50 and a second comparator 49. A first reference voltage is applied to the negative input terminal of the first comparator 50, and an output voltage Vout is applied to the positive input terminal. When the output voltage exceeds the first reference voltage, a first warning signal is made to appear at the output terminal of the comparator 50. A second reference voltage is applied to the negative input terminal of the comparator 49, and the output voltage Vout is applied to the positive input terminal. Therefore, when the output voltage Vout exceeds the second reference voltage, a second warning signal appears at the output terminal of the comparator 49. A light emitting diode 56 is made to blink by a display signal which passes selectively through an AND gate 55 corresponding to the warning signals.
