英文摘要PURPOSE:To reduce the optical output variance noise accompanied with the longitudinal mode change of a semiconductor laser and to improve the efficiency of light use, by returning a specific quantity or more of the light of the semiconductor laser by an optical feedback material. CONSTITUTION:Since the noise is reduced rapidly when about >=10% quantity of light is fed back to a semiconductor laser chip, an optical feedback material 17 is fixed on the side of a light emitting chip 13 of a cover glass 14. This optical feedback material 17 is provided with a hollowed part 18, through which a luminous flux (part THETA) used for reading out a signal from a disc passes, and a reflective face 19 which reflects an unused light 16. As the result, if the numerical aperture NA of a coupling lens is 0.15, >=50% quantity of light emitted from the laser is fed back stably; and further, since the actually used luminous flux has no loss, the semiconductor laser which has a high efficiency of light use and has less noise is obtained.
