英文摘要PURPOSE:To enable the output of beams of good directivity without astigmatism by a method wherein a laser chip is sealed with transparent resin, the surface shape of which resin is then formed into a suitable curved surface shape. CONSTITUTION:The semiconductor laser chip 1 is mounted on a metallic stem 2 of good heat dissipating property, a transparent resin molded body 8 being molded thereon and then sealing the laser chip The surface of this body 8 is constructed so as to have curvatures different in directions intersecting rectangularly to each other. That is, it is contrived that the lens effect becomes different in the direction perpendicular to the hetero junction of the chip 1 and in the direction parallel thereto; therefore the astigmatism is carried out, and the directivity of the output laser beam can be improved. In normal, the astigmatism is corrected by a slight increase in the surface curvature in the direction parallel to the hetero junction more than that in the perpendicular direction.
