英文摘要 | PURPOSE:To enable emitted light to be incorporated to an optical fiber with very high coupling efficiency by a method wherein, using a columnar magneto- optical cyrstal, its center axis is arranged horizontally to the junction plane of a semiconductor laser chip. CONSTITUTION:The emitted light 7 from the semiconductor laser 1 rotates at 45 deg. in the directin of polarization at the time of passage through the cylindrical columnar magneto-optical crystal 5 receiving a magnetic field in the direction of optical axis by a magneto-optical material 6. At the same time, beding action works through the crystal 5 on a plane of the emitted light 7 that has a larger angle of spreading vertical to the junction plane of the laser, accordingly, large effect of convergence can be obtained. Bending action does not work on a plane of the light 7 that has smaller angle of spreading horizontal to the junction plane of the laser As a result, the flux of the light 7 can be converted to a light flux having nearly equal angles of spreading in directions horizontal and vertical to the junction plane of the laser The light thus converted collects to an end surface 9 of the optical fiber 8 and can couple the laser 1 with the fiber 8 with high coupling efficiency. |
