英文摘要PURPOSE:To send an output light signal having a low distortion stably against variation in an environmental temperature by placing a laser diode and a distortion compensating diode on one side surface, and providing a heat discharging element to be controlled by temperature information detected by a temperature sensor. CONSTITUTION:A laser diode 1, a monitoring photodiode 2, a thermistor 3 and a diode 29 are provided on a chip carrier 4, and the carrier 4 is placed on a thermoelectric element 5. The temperatures of elements provided on the carrier 4 are made uniform, the element 5 is so controlled that the detecting temperature of the thermistor 3 becomes constant, and the elements provided on the carrier 4 placed on the element 5 are stably operated even if the ambient temperature is varied. The degrees of nonlinearities of the laser diode and the diode largely depend upon temperature dependency, and both are disposed on the element. Even if the ambient temperature is varied, it is controlled at constant temperature within the cooling capacity for the thermoelectric element having practical size and power consumption.
