英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain an optical pickup with miniaturized, light weight, and accessible at high speed by mounting an optical system on a floating slider which floats by the shift of the substrate of a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A convergence type grating coupler 108 consisting of a semiconductor laser 104, a photodetector, and an objective lens and the optical system consisting of an optical waveguide layer 103, etc., which connects the above devices are mounted on the floating slider 201 which floats by the shift of the substrate 303 of the recording medium. In other words, by mounting the optical system on the floating slider which floats with a constant amount of floating over the surface of the substrate of the recording medium by the rotation of the substrate of the recording medium, etc., a distance between the recording medium and the optical system can be kept constant. Therefore, it is possible to make a servo mechanism in a focusing direction unnecessary, and also, to make an electromagnetic driving mechanism for servo unnecessary for performing tracking in a direction of a feed motor like a fixed magnetic disk because the weight of one gram of the optical pickup including the floating slider is extremely light. In such a way, a recording and reproducing device can be miniaturized and operated at high speed.
