英文摘要PURPOSE:To maintain original 2nd higher harmonic distortion that an LD element generates even in an easy connection state using a connector by providing a coating layer of a material which has a larger refractive index than a clad layer and has absorption characteristics in the oscillation wavelength range of the LD element. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber formed by coating the clad layer 7 with the material which has the larger refractive index than the clad layer 7 and has absorption characteristics in the oscillation wavelength range of the laser diode element (LD) 1 is used. In an LD module 24 like this, light which is emitted by the LD element 1, made incident on the clad layer 7 of an optical fiber, and further made incident on the coating layer 23 is absorbed in the clad layer 23 and never re-incident on the clad layer 7, so the propagation loss of light propagated in the clad layer 7 of the optical fiber increases and a connector connection reduces the quantity of light incident on the core layer 6 of the optical fiber of a photodiode module to an extent where the light can be ignored as compared with the level of the 2nd higher harmonic component of light propagated in an original path. Consequently, the 2nd higher harmonic distortion generated by the LD element 1 can be maintained.
