英文摘要PURPOSE:To easily manufacture and to improve the S/N of a semiconductor optical integrated circuit by forming a high order diffraction grating for radiating an optical signal to be propagated in an optical waveguide layer to a photodetector near the layer, and providing a shielding layer for electrically shielding the photodetector. CONSTITUTION:A diffraction grating 10 of high order of quadratic or more for radiating an optical signal to be propagated in an optical waveguide layer 3 to a photodetector 8 is formed near the layer 3. A shielding layer 5 for electrically shielding a photodetector 8 is provided between an optical waveguide region 14 and the photodetector 8. The signal to be propagated in the layer 3 of the region is radiated perpendicularly to the layer 3 by the grating 30 provided near the layer 3, and the radiated light 12 is photodotected by the photodetector. Thus, an easy manufacture is provided, and the S/N of detection of the signal can be improved.
