CONSTITUTION:Two striped grooves are formed in parallel on a substrate A current inhibiting layer 11 having a conduction type reverse to the substrate 1 is deposited on the substrate 1 containing the grooves and a current interrupting function to the substrate is given, a section corresponding to a conical section between two grooves is etched from the surface of the current inhibiting layer 11 and a groove 13 in width W is processed, and the surface of the conical section is exposed. A section corresponding to the conical section of the substrate 1 functions as a removed current path of the current inhibiting layer 11, an internal stripe 12 for injecting currents. A first clad layer 2 laminated on the groove 13 is given layer-thickness distribution by processing and molding the groove 13 to the current inhibiting layer 11, the effective refractive index of an active layer 3 superposed on the first clad layer 2 changes in response to the layer- thickness distribution, and an optical waveguide is formed. |
