英文摘要The sphingomyelin pathway is a ubiquitous signaling system, in which ceramide acts as a second messenger. Some enzymes are involved in generation or abolishment of ceramide. In several cell systems ceramide links to the stress-activated protein kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, kinase suppressor of Ras, PKCzeta, protein phosphatase 1, protein phosphatase 2A to signal apoptosis. The engagement of the sphingomyelin pathway in signaling apoptosis is tightly regulated to some stress related diseases and tumors. This review describes the known role of ceramide and the metabolite in stress response cascade and apoptosis.
