英文摘要As a new transdermal drug delivery system, owning to the volatilization of the propellant and volatile components of the foam aerosol, it will gradually form a saturated solution or even supersaturated solution of the drug. During this period, the drug concentration gradient and thermodynamic activity gradually increase, which prompting the rapid spread of drugs into the organization. As a result, the bioavailability of drugs increase. In addition, some excipients of foam aerosols are able to dissolve some of the intercellular lipids in the stratum corneum and destroy the stratum corneum structure, which consequently increase the drug penetration rate by reducing the resistance of the drug to penetrate. What's more, the combination of foam aerosol and microemulsion, liposomes as well as nanoparticles can greatly improve the skin permeability and enhance efficacy. Besides, due to the slight viscosity, ease of spread and no needing to exert pressure on the skin, the patients have a high compliance of foam aerosols. Through reviewing and collating recent reports on foam aerosols, the characteristics of foam aerosols, transdermal absorption mechanism, listed foam aerosol products and the latest research progress are reviewed in this paper to provide reference for the development of foam aerosol.
