英文摘要PURPOSE:To increase the coupling efficiency between a light source and an optical waveguide, miniaturize an optical circuit, and improve the reliability of the optical circuit, by integrating a laser light source on an LiNbO3 waveguide so as to constitute a unified body. CONSTITUTION:An LiNbO3 substrate 1 is used, on which a channel waveguide 2 is formed. A laser light emitting region 11 contains a region where active atomic ions are added to the channel waveguide 2. A phase modulation region 12 and a distributed Bragg reflection region 13 are formed along the channel waveguide 2. When active atom ions are added to the LiNbO3 channel waveguide 2, and pumping light is projected on the region, the added active active atom ions generate fluorescenece, which is fedback to the light emitting region 11, thereby generating laser oscillation. Hence the coupling efficiency between the waveguide 2 and the light source and the stability are improved, and an optical integrated circuit wherein a light source and function elements are integrated on a dielectric waveguide can be obtained.
