英文摘要PURPOSE:To improve secondary harmonic conversion efficiency by disposing on the same plane two types of ring resonators having lasing function and secondary harmonic generation function, and further disposing those resonators in close vicinity to each other. CONSTITUTION:Optical waveguides 2, 3 are formed into a square shape on the same plane on a substrate 1, and hence two square-shape ring type resonators are formed. Each resonator 2, 3 comprises four optical waveguides and four corner reflecting surfaces. Lasing is induced in the optical waveguide 3 of the ring type optical resonator 3, and secondary harmonic is generated(SHG) in the waveguide 2. For the two resonators 2, 3, since the optical waveguides 2, 3 are disposed in close vicinity to each other and optically coupled, laser light emitted in the ring type resonator 3 is transferred to the ring resonator 2 and oscillated and propagated through the same. The light is used as excitation light to generate secondary harmonic in the optical waveguide 2. Laser light induced in the resonator 2 is reflected at four corners and hence confined in the resonator 2. Thus, secondary harmonic conversion efficiency is improved.
