英文摘要PURPOSE:To stably convert a fundamental wave into a higher harmonic with high efficiency and to obtain blue projection light with short wavelength in a 375-450(nm) wavelength band. CONSTITUTION:This light source consists of a red semiconductor laser 11, a lens 16 which converges exciting light 16 emitted by this red semiconductor laser 11, a resonator 15a, an optical substrate 12 which is arranged in the resonator 15a and doped with Tm (thulium ion) as rare earth ions and has an optical waveguide, and a wavelength converting element 13 which is arranged in the resonator 15a behind the optical substrate 12 (on light projection side) and has an optical waveguide 13a. The exciting light 17 which is emitted by the red semiconductor laser 11 and has a 680nm wavelength is made incident on the optical substrate 12 and light which is emitted from the rare earth ions excited by the exciting light 17 and has an 800nm wavelength is made incident as the fundamental wave 18 on a wavelength converting element 13 and converted into the higher harmonic, so that a 2nd higher harmonic 19 with a 400 nm wavelength is projected.
