The method uses a vertical cavity surface emitting laser disposed in the printing apparatus and comprises transporting the printing target through the printing apparatus, emitting a wavelength modulated optical signal toward the printing target using the vertical cavity surface emitting laser, receiving a reflection of the wavelength modulated optical signal, and analyzing the reflected optical signal to identify a property of the printing target. |
