英文摘要PURPOSE:To enable the secondary higher harmonic generation of a single pulse with a high noise ratio by spatially breaking down plural pulses emitted by a semiconductor laser, and making only the 1st pulse incident on an optical waveguide and propagating it in the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with the semiconductor laser 9, a lens system 4 which converts the laser light emitted by the semiconductor laser 9 into parallel light, a half-wavelength plate 6 which rotates the polarizing direction of the laser light by 90 deg., a condenser lens system 5 which converges the parallel light, and a waveguide type light changing element 2 which has the waveguide 3 for converting the wavelength of the laser light. The semiconductor laser 9 is driven with a pulse current, the laser light emitted by the semiconductor laser 9 is pulse light, and only the 1st pulse of relaxation vibration by the semiconductor laser 9 among the pulses is made incident on the waveguide type light converting element 2 which has the waveguide 3. Consequently, the wavelength break down of the laser light in a focal length direction is performed by the condenser lens system 5. Consequently, a single light pulse of the secondary higher harmonic obtained by wavelength conversion can be outputted as a high output.
