英文摘要PURPOSE:To provide a waveguide type second harmonics generating element using an LiTaO3 crystal that is hard to cause any optical damage but easy to produce a refractive index dispersing means by means of domain reversion or the like. CONSTITUTION:A three-dimensional waveguide 2 is formed in a substrate consisting of a nonlinear medium (LiTaO3), and when fundamental frequency of a fundamental wave laser beam passing through this waveguide 2 is set down to omega, if a propagation constant of a waveguide mode light with the fundamental wave is set to beta(omega), and another propagating constant of the waveguide mode light with a second harmonics of the fundamental wave to beta(2omega), respectively, a periodic structure of a period LAMBDA imparting such a refractive index variation as satisfying a relationship of beta(2omega)-2beta(omega)=2mpi/LAMBDA (m; natural number) is given to the waveguide 2 by a refractive index dispersing means, thus a waveguide type second harmonics generating element is secured.
