| 英文摘要 | PURPOSE:To prevent other switching area from being interlocked even if a reverse voltage is applied to a switching area and to obtain an inversion type directional coupler of a low loss by constituting the title optical element so that at least the switching area of two pieces of semiconductor clad layers provided in parallel on the upper face of an (n) type semiconductor core layer is a (p) type. CONSTITUTION:The upper clad layers 51, 52 are formed through the lower clad layer 3 and a core layer 4 on a semiconductor substrate 2 on the lower electrode 1 of an optical element using for an optical communication field in which three pieces of directional couplers have been accumulated. The clad layers 51, 52 on this layer 4 are formed like two pieces of ridges being adjacent to each other, and on the layer 4, thin films 51b, 52b of a (p) type semiconductor are formed through thin films 51a, 52a of an (n) type semiconductor, and also, on said film, cap layers 51c, 52c consisting of a (p) type semiconductor are formed. Subsequently, the upper face of the upper clad layers 51, 52 is covered with an insulating thin film 53, windows 54a, 54b are pierced in a part for coming into contact with the cap layers 51c, 52c, and the upper side electrodes 55a, 55b are connected to the cap layers 51c, 52c. |
