英文摘要The Silk Road which links four ancient civilizations is a well-known ancient trade and cultural exchange route. It linked the China and the west for more than two thousand years in the past. The present Silk Road which inherits the spirit of ancient Silk Road covers more than 140 countries and nearly 66% world population (Cui et al.2017; Lei et al. 2018). However, due to the complex geological and geomorphological settings and increasing number of extreme weathers under global warming, the number of natural hazards reported in the Silk Road area has been increasing year by year, and they had been getting worse in recent years (e.g., earth-quakes, landslides, and debris flows, floods, droughts). This trend poses huge threats to the Silk Road countries and their livelihoods (Lei et al. 2018; Cui et al.2018a; Cui et al.2018b). Furthermore, many countries in this area are less developed countries and this increasing occurrence of disasters
could significantly hinder the sustainable development of Silk Road countries. In line with Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Silk Road Disaster Risk Reduction (SiDRR) was launched in 2016 as an international research program on disaster risk reduction (Lei et al. 2018). This program is tasked to enhance global actions towards the green and resilient Silk Road by joint forces of over twenty research institutes and scientists around the globe. For making a step to enhance understanding the disaster risks, SiDRR is ready to consolidate its research results by publishing the Atlas of Silk Road Disaster Risk in 2020. The Atlas provides the details of environment, disaster characteristics, typical disaster events, and disaster risk assessment results at different scales in the Silk Road area in an envisioned form.
