英文摘要This study mainly focuses on the seasonal and inter-annual variability of sea surface salinity (SSS) in the Central North Arabian Sea (CNAS) by using Aquarius/Satelite de Aplicaciones Cientificas-D (SAC-D), the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite measurements and gridded Argo field from January 2011 to December 2017. Satellite data measurements are compared with in-situ Argo data sets on the selected study region. The mean state of spatial SSS variation is fairly consistent among Argo, Aquarius, and SMOS datasets. Relative to the Argo and Aquarius SSS field, SMOS is indicated bias, with lower SSS values near to the coastal regions. CNAS has relatively higher SSS, where annual mean is 36.5 practical salinity unit (psu). There are two main low salinity periods, and one strong high salinity period within the annual SSS cycle of the region.  During northeast (NE) monsoon period northwestward advection of low salinity water from the southeast coast makes the first salinity reduction in the region. This low salinity advection can reach the Oman Sea during the late winter monsoon period. Then SSS rapidly increases after April. SSS reaches the maximum during the mature phase of the southwest (SW) summer monsoon period. The CNAS SSS shows significant seasonality due to advection and evaporation associated with high monsoon winds. The existence of Ras al Hadd Jet and prevailing southward advection of high salinity water from the Gulf of Oman contribute to the highest SSS during the SW monsoon period in the CNAS. The inter-annual variability of the CNAS SSS is mainly associated with the ocean circulation and advection which triggered by the regional monsoon variation. 2012 and 2016 can be identified as specific years that have relatively strong negative SSS anomaly and positive SSS anomaly respectively. The low SSS during 2012 is mainly associated with the intense monsoonal activities and coupled low salinity water advection from upwelling regions of Oman coasts. Due to the decrease of the monsoon strength during 2016, the prevailing high salinity water from the most northern parts of the Arabian Sea brings high salinity dense water to the CNAS in an extreme manner than in normal years.
