英文摘要 | eagrass meadows and mangroves forest constitute an incredibly important and productive ecosystem in the marine coastal environment. These ecosystems provide various ecological, commercial and recreational services. Globally, seagrass and mangroves ecosystem are declining at an alarming rate. In addition to natural disasters, the immense anthropogenic activities taking place at coastal line ending up a massive discharge of pollutants are one of the contributing factors in the declining of these prestigious ecosystems. Among the pollutants, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) is of primary health and environmental concern due to their toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic and the ability to absorb in the biological tissue of plants and animals. The adverse effects of increasing concentration of PAHs on seagrass, mangroves and on the surrounding biota are inevitable. The removal of these toxic compounds is necessary for a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. Although PAHs can be removed by different methods such as chemical oxidation, photooxidation, volatilization and bio-accumulation but the microbial degradation of these pollutants are considered the most effective, economical and environmentally friendly method. Hence, the identification of potential microbial group capable of degrading these pollutants and understanding the mechanism of degradation is very necessary for developing a bioremediation procedure. This dissertation aims; to investigate the responses of indigenous bacterial community in seagrass and mangroves sediments against different PAHs compounds in lab-scale microcosm experiment; to identify the key bacterial groups performing a key role in the degradation; to isolate PAHs degrading bacterial strains and to evaluate the PAHs degradation potential of some bacterial strains.
