Crystal and magnetic structures of Ce2CuGe6

英文摘要The crystal and magnetic structures of Ce2CuGe6 compound were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, magnetization, electrical resistivity, and magnetoresistance measurements. In this work, the crystal structure of Ce2CuGe6 was corrected to be orthorhombic Ce-2(GaGe)(7)-type with C-mca space group based on the data of X-ray diffraction and neutron powder diffraction experiments. The results obtained in magnetic measurements and neutron powder diffraction suggest that Ce3+ (F-2(5/2)) is the only magnetic species in the compound. Below its Neel temperature T-N = 14.47(8) K, the Ce moments order in the structure composed of ferromagnetic bi-layers alternately stacking along the c-axis and the easy axis is along the crystallographic b-axis. The neutron diffraction results could explain the field-induced ferromagnetic component along c-axis below T-N, and a spin-flip transition at the critical field H-c similar to 12 kOe along b-axis. Ce2CuGe6 exhibits metallic electrical transport between 2 and 300 K. The magnetic scattering among the crystalline electric field (CEF) of the rare earth ions in the paramagnetic state dominates the low-temperature electrical transport behavior. Besides, the metamagnetic transition is also evidenced as a discontinuous jump in the magnetoresistance. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
