Study on the denitrogenization kinetics of uranium during electron beam cold hearth refining

英文摘要 | An investigation of kinetics of release of nitrogen from uranium melt were carried out under pressure of less than 0.01Pa via electron beam cold hearth refining. The results indicated that electron beam smelting was an effective purifacation method to reduce nitrogen, the nitrogen decreased sharply to be 10% of initial after 60 min refining. The nitrogen removal rate is first order with respect to nitrogen content in the melt, and the release process is controlled by nitrogen transfer in liquid diffusion layer. The mass transfer coefficient was determined, and the values were estimated to be 0.82 x 10(-5) m s(-1) and 1.40 x 10(-5) m s(-1) at 1940 degrees C and 2320 degrees C, respectively. The release of denitrogenation increased with melt temperature, and apparent activation energy of the release was calculated to be 68 kJ mol(-1) from Arrhenius type equation. |
