Heterogeneous adoption of eco-innovation considering commuting mobility patterns

英文摘要In response to climate change, much efforts have been devoted to promoting the eco-innovation. When studying the eco-innovation diffusion, individual heterogeneity, especially its impact on the diffusion process, is a major concern. Up to now, adoption heterogeneity caused by socio-economic differences is rarely considered on the topic of the eco-innovation diffusion on complex networks, especially on multiplex networks. To fill this gap, we propose three models to reflect adoption heterogeneity, and we study them on a real multiplex network, where six socio-economic classes coexist. By both theoretical analysis and simulations, we show that the adoption heterogeneity expands the gap of adopted fractions among different classes. There exists a leading class that causes the onset of eco-innovation on the multiplex network, regardless of the mobility probability or model. If one wants to promote eco-innovation, it is essential to break down barriers among people from close classes and attract people from the leading class to adopt the eco-innovation. Besides, it is also advisable to select the areas with more homogeneous socio-economic population distribution to be the original diffusion area. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
