英文摘要With the rapid growth of Internet, it is becoming a new media for scientific information. Search engine and subject oriented navigator are the two essential tools for users to access information on Internet. ChIN(the Chemical Information Network) is an Internet chemical resources navigator to help chemists to find chemistry information on Internet, which was developed under the joint support UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and NNSFC(the National Natural Science Foundation of China). The current version of ChIN pages mainly consists of HTML documents. ChIN's maintenance relies heavily on the HTML editor at present, which has become more and more difficult for editors to keep it up to data as the size of ChIN grows larger. To improve the maintaining efficiency and performance of ChIN, a database based software "ChIN-Manager" has been created. ChIN-Manager is a program that ChIN editors can use to edit, categorize and store the resource information they collect from Internet, and it can generate the HTML files (including list pages and summary pages) and upload the files to the Web server. With the help of ChIN-Manager, it is easy and efficient for the editors to accomplish their daily work, including data editing, categorizing, and automated publishing, so the editors can concentrate on the content of the data and the relevancy among the resources. The design and construction of ChIN-Manager will be introduced. Tables of ChIN's database are created based on the analysis on ChIN's data. To overcome the difficulty of maintaining the category structure of ChIN, some reference category models were setup, and the category structure of ChIN was setup according to the referenced models. The summary page links in the list pages are first grouped and then sorted, according to the weights that the summary pages have. Improvements of the summary pages in the new edition of ChIN are also introduced in this paper. With the improvements above, ChIN is more efficient to maintain, and will provide better performance.
