The phenomenon of Fear of missing out (FoMO) has attracted more and more attention with the use of social networking sites. Despite some studies have explored the causes of FoMO from the perspective of family, not much research has been conducted that relates the family function to FoMO. A sample of 387 college students (age 17-24, Mage=19.97±1.25) was recruited to complete online questionnaires measuring family function, self-control, social networking sites (SNSs) addiction and FoMO. As expected, family function is directly associated with FoMO, self-control and SNSs addiction mediate the relationship between family function and FoMO. These findings indicate that enhance family function can decrease the level of FoMO and offer some insights for improving the quality of family education.
