Role of Interfacial Orbital Hybridization in Spin-Orbit-Torque Generation in Pt-Based Heterostructures

英文摘要 | We report a large enhancement of the spin-orbit-torque (SOT) efficiency achieved by inserting an ultrathin Co layer between a single-crystal Pt layer and an epitaxial Ni81Fe19 layer. We attribute this to the strong interfacial orbital hybridization between Pt and Co. Another effect of this hybridization is the spin-rotation effect based on the out-of-plane component of the magnetic moment, which explains the observation of out-of-plane torques. Our results offer an effective approach to engineer the SOT in a conventional ferromagnet-heavy metal system, which might provide opportunities for spintronic application. |
