Mantle geochemistry in China with a view from modern Earth system science

英文摘要 | From the perspective of modern Earth system science, this paper briefly reviews the history of the formation of the international mantle geochemistry discipline in the last century, summarizes the history of the origination and development of China's mantle geochemistry since the 1970s, and emphasizes that under the promotion of the international collaborative programs such as the International Lithosphere Program and the Continental Dynamics Program, the research on the composition and evolution characteristics of the subcontinental lithosphere in China is the focus. We have successively carried out research on Cenozoic basalts and their mantle derived xenoliths in the eastern China, geochemical characteristics and end member determination of mantle source areas, characteristics of mantle source blocks revealed by mantle geochemical mapping, crust mantle interaction caused by deep continental subduction, and North China craton destruction plan and the progress made in the corresponding research, especially summarized the great progress in the study of mantle source rocks since the new century, and the breakthrough achievements in the application of non-traditional stable isotopes, micro area in-situ analysis and deep mantle ultrahigh pressure mineral research. Finally, this paper emphasizes that modern Earth system science should return to its original meaning, that is, a comprehensive and all-around geoscience covering the interaction of multiple spheres and its dynamic mechanism in deep space, deep sea, deep Earth, from outer space to the core of the Earth. Among them, the deep mantle process including the core mantle interaction undoubtedly plays a leading role, and mantle geochemistry will still be indispensable as a new force in modern Earth system science. At the same time, the importance of expanding the exploration of microscopic particle size and the basic theory of geochemistry should be emphasized in the future. |
