英文摘要 | We carried out magnetic property and paleointenstiy study on five millimeter-scale lunar regolith clasts of the lunar regolith (E21) stored in the Geological Museum, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Among these clasts, two of them are agglutinates, one is breccia and the other two are basalts. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) result shows the dominant minerals in these clasts are ilmenite, pyroxene, plagioclase and troilite, etc., while the main remanence carriers are Fe-Ni alloys, mostly kamacites. Rock magnetic results indicate that agglutinate/breccia and basalt clasts possess different magnetic behaviors, with the former showing stronger magnetic carrying capacity than the latter. Paleointensity experiment by non-heating methods yields values of tens microtesla. Both magnetic property and paleointensities recorded by the five lunar regolith clasts are comparable with that of the Apollo returned lunar samples. This demonstrates the feasibility of recovering paleointensity of the magnetic field from lunar regolith. This study on lunar regolith will provide important reference from method to technique for the magnetic research on the Chang'E-5 lunar regolith samples. |
