Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of selfie-editing on women’s mate selection criteria and its path. In experiment 1, a 2×2 two-factor mixed experimental design was used, with selfie-editing and selfie-non-editing as independent variables, and 62 unmarried women were tested for continuous self-selfies for seven days. The results showed that selfie-non-editing significantly and negatively predicted mate selection criteria. In experiment 2, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 428 unmarried women. The results showed that selfie editing especially positively expected mate selection criteria. Self-perceived facial attraction and self-perceived mate value mediated the relationship between selfie-editing and mate selection criteria. There were three paths: the single mediating effect of self-perceived facial interest, the single mediating effect of self-perceived mate value, and the mediating chain effect of self-perceived facial attraction and self-perceived mate value. The results are of theoretical and practical significance.
