Chemical shrinkage of ferrite-rich calcium sulfoaluminate clinkers with varied gypsum contents

英文摘要Studying the chemical shrinkage that occur during the hydration of ferrite-rich calcium sulfoaluminate (FCSA) cement, which is mainly composed of FCSA clinker and gypsum, is important parameter for understanding the volume stability of paste, mortar, and concrete prepared by FCSA cement. This study investigated the chemical shrinkage of FCSA clinkers with gypsum after 28 d of hydration under saturated conditions. The hydration products were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis, and thermodynamic modelling was used for prediction. Every reactant phase in the FCSA systems was fully hydrated, and the FCSA clinker paste produced maximum chemical shrinkage compared with that of pastes of the FCSA clinkers with gypsum systems after 28 d of hydration. As the gypsum content was increased, more ettringite was produced, accompanied by a gradual reduction in the chemical shrinkage. The stable hydration products of FCSA clinkers mainly comprised monosulfoaluminate, whereas those of FCSA clinkers mixed with gypsum systems were converted to ettringite.
