Evaluation on adsorption capacity of low organic matter soil for hydrophobic organic pollutant

英文摘要The adsorption capacity of contaminated sites for hydrophobic organic pollutants (HOPs) will be a vital occurrence parameter. In deep contaminated areas, the content of organic matter in soil is less, and therefore the influence of soil properties will be more prominent. However, researchers lack the overall understanding and evaluation of soil physicochemical properties that influenced HOP adsorption. Therefore, from the micro-mesomacro perspective, the effect of some typical physicochemical properties on the HOP adsorption was reviewed firstly. Second, using a concentration-specific distribution coefficient (K-d) to unify the parameters of adsorption capacity in the literature revealed how these properties affect the adsorption capacity intuitively. Furthermore, the modified TOPSIS mathematical model was used to evaluate the contribution of properties quantitatively through the relationship of K-d-properties, showing that SSA (score, 0.0860), pore volume (score, 0.0901), and zeta potential (score, 0.0999) are significant factors affecting the adsorption capacity, which can also be verified by the adsorption mechanisms. Finally, the adsorption mechanisms of soils, i.e., dispersion force, hydrophobic interaction, and weak hydrogen bonding, were refined and concluded. Meanwhile, the presence of water molecules will co-adsorb with HOPs, affecting the interface interaction. The larger the SSA, the more sites can be provided to bond HOP through the dispersion force or weak hydrogen bonding; the greater the zeta potential, the more HOPs are inserted into the hydration shell under the interaction force. The review provides a general understanding of the HOP occurrence in deep contaminated areas with low organic matter.
