Frontiers in lunar science based on bibliometric analysis

英文摘要 | The Moon is a top priority for human deep space exploration. Lunar exploration is a pinnacle of scientific and technological competition between nations worldwide. It is crucial to conduct an analysis of the frontier in lunar science, which can help implement the country's deep space exploration strategy, plan the path of planetary science research, and then win a competitive advantage in the future. Based on the Web of Science database, this paper utilizes bibliometric methods to systematically analyze the number of academic publications, the distribution of disciplines and journals, the competitiveness of major countries and leading institutions, and international cooperation in the field of lunar science. Five major research areas and seven major frontier issues are obtained through clustering analysis. In the past two decades, China has made great progress in lunar science. However, the numbers of excellent papers, top scholars and academic journals are still very limited. In the coming years, lunar science may see significant advancements in three areas. Firstly, lunar exploration will continue to prioritize the study of water on the Moon. Secondly, exploring the internal structure of the Moon could provide a chance for a country to surpass others in this field. Finally, analyzing additional samples from the Moon could reveal more about its formation and evolution. The findings of this study could serve as a valuable guide for future lunar exploration and research planning and organization. |
