英文摘要Middle Eocene was the climax of a magmatic flare-up event in the Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc, Iran, yet its potential trigger and mechanism of magma generation remain poorly understood. To explore such issues, we analyze a set of silicic ignimbrites at Arbat in the northwestern part of the arc for zircon U-Pb age, whole-rock major and trace elements, and Sr-Nd isotopes. The studied rocks display pyroclastic textures with sanidine, plagioclase, amphibole, Fe-Ti oxides and rhyolitic glass as dominant phases. An eruption age of-44 Ma was indicated by zircon U-Pb age data for representative samples. The rocks are characterized by dacitic to rhyolitic compositions and restricted ranges in most major elements (e.g.,-66-70 wt% SiO2,-13.1-14.1 wt% Al2O3,-3.5-3.9 wt% K2O). While most rocks have coherent trace element patterns as average continental crust, trace element concentrations show two-to three-fold variations that are correlated to SiO2 contents. The rocks have a range of age-corrected Sr and Nd isotopic compositions (initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.7053 to 0.7067, epsilon Nd =-0.8 to-4.1) that are also correlated to SiO2 contents, resembling trends of assimilation and fractional crystallization (AFC). However, AFC cannot explain the trace element variations, which are otherwise consistent with mixing. We propose that the most silica-rich rhyolitic rocks represent dominantly crustal melts of the Iranian basement, and less silica-rich dacitic rocks represent mixed products between those melts and a mafic component of depleted mantle-like Sr-Nd isotopic compositions. The involvement of crustal melts is required to account for the geochemical variability seen in igneous rocks formed during the Iranian arc flare-up, and might be applicable to other magmatic flare-ups worldwide.
