Geophysical technology for exploration of magmatic Ni.Cu sulfide deposits:Case study in Kalatongke deposit

英文摘要 | It is difficult to accurately locate deep disseminated ore bodies of magmatic Ni-Cu sulfide deposits in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt because of the coexistence of carbonaceous layers and small ore-related intrusions. Taking Kalatongke deposit in Xinjiang as an example, we developed integrated geophysical technologies for exploration of Ni-Cu sulfide deposits. According to the petrophysical characteristics of mafic intrusion and carbonaceous layer, we employed comprehensive gravity, magnetic, seismic and short-offset grounded-wire transient electromagnetic (SOTEM) technology, including: (1) using gravity and magnetic scanning to delineate surface projection position of concealed metallogenic intrusions; (2) using seismic exploration to delineate top-bottom interface and occurrence space of intrusion; (3) using SOTEM to recover resistivity and polarization information of the carbonaceous layer, and their spatial occurrences. A new strategy for indirectly predicting occurrence of disseminated ore bodies is proposed by determining the spatial distribution relationship between ore-related intrusions and carbonaceous layers. When carbonaceous tuff presents beneath the intrusions, there are potential ore bodies at the bottom or inside of the intrusions, while no ore bodies are expected if no carbonaceous layer is found surrounding the intrusion. This study provides a technical scheme and exploration demonstration for exploration of other magmatic Ni-Cu sulfide deposits in orogenic belt. |
