英文摘要Turnip (Brassica rapa var. rapa), belonging to the Brassica of Cruciferae family, is an early subspecies of Brassica. It was reported that turnip was introduced into Asia before 2100-4200 years ago. It is widely cultivated around America, Europe and Asia after a long period of natural selection and humandomestication. Turnip was mainly cultivated in high-altitude areas, like Qinghai and Tibet provinces, fewer in medium-high-altitude areas, as Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, and locally in low-altitude areas, such as Xinjiang, Hebei and Zhejiang Provinces. We observed that the transformation of turnip from fleshy taproot formation to flowering had a strong adaptability to the local climate during different environments and artificial breeding process, and the turnip landraces at different altitudes had evolved different vernalization requirements and flowering times. It was visible that the altitude span of turnip cultivated areas was very large, implied that turnip exhibited an ecological adaptability to different altitudes and climates. Vernalization response is an evolutionary adaptation of plants to temperate climate. Many winter-annual plants regard cold winter as a major environmental factor to determine the appropriate flowering time in a year. At present, studies on the genetic mechanism of vernalization-induced flowering mainly focus on spring-annual and winter-annual plants, and flowering differences are often caused by natural mutations in some key vernalization pathway genes. However, for plants with winter-annual characteristics, there is still lack of sufficient evidence for the genetic variation of cold perception and vernalization response among crop varieties. In the present project, we used more than 80 turnip landraces from China as materials to explore the genetic variation and adaptive mechanism among turnip landraces in different vernalization response. Our results revealed the flowering strategies of traditional crop turnip adapting to different altitudes and climates under domestication. The key results are as follows: (1) Genetic mechanism of flowering time variation among subspecies of Brassica AA genome. (2) Effect of BrrFRIa nucleotide polymorphism on vernalization response variations among different turnip landraces. (3) Using BSA technology to figure out candidate genes affecting early flowering of early flowering turnip landrace. Our study would not only provide a new theoretical and application value for the study of flowering time variation among Brassica vegetables and for cultivating late bolting landraces, but also contribute to better understand the biological significances of flowering and ecology adaptative strategies of traditional crops under domestication.
