In recent years, with the increasing detection rate of depression and loneliness, depression and loneliness have become invisible killers of physical and mental health for adolescents and adults. Adolescents are in the transition stage from children to adults, with rapid physical and mental changes. In addition, their main living environment is transfering from family to school, facing multiple challenges such as family, school, peer academics they are prone to psychological imbalance, and may be lead to depression and loneliness. Adults are in a more diverse and complex environment, facing multiple pressures such as work, marriage, family, interpersonal relationships and health, which may affect their mental health, as well as cause a series of negative emotions such as depression and loneliness. As the first proximal environment for individual growth, family is crucial for individual physical and mental development. The quality of family relationship (such as parental marital conflict), negative parenting behaviors (such as psychological control), and positive psychological resources (such as resilience) of children and adolescents are important influencing factors for family, child and adolescent growth, which have attracted the attention of researchers. However, there are few studies that include the above factors into the same model to explore the influence mechanism of parental marriage conflicts on children’s depression and loneliness. Secondly, Previous research from the perspective of families has mainly focused on children and adolescents, and the research on adults is often limited to college students, lacking the expansion of age groups. Thirdly, previous similar research is mainly based on questionnaire survey, and there are few explorations from the perspective of qualitative research. Therefore, this study starts from the perspective of family, adopts the method of combining quantitative research with qualitative research, takes adolescents and adults as the research objects, and deeply explores the influencing mechanism of parental marital conflict on children's depression and loneliness. This study consists of three parts: In study one, Using the questionnaire method of quantitative research, this study took adolescents as the research objects. Through cluster sampling, a questionnaire survey was conducted on the first and second year students of middle schools in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province and Chongqing, and 805 valid questionnaires were collected. To explore the mediating effects of parental psychological control and psychological resilience in adolescets between parental marital conflict and early adolescents’ depression, loneliness. In study tow, Using the questionnaire method of quantitative research, adults were selected as the research objects. By adopting the convenient sampling method, electronic questionnaires were distributed to adults over 18 years old in Chongqing, Sichuan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Shanghai and other Province, and 728 valid questionnaires were collected. To further explore whether parental psychological control and adult psychological resilience also play similar mediating effects between parental marital conflict and adults’ depression, loneliness. The differences of mediating effects between adolescents and adults were further tested. In study three, Based on the quantitative research results of Study one and tow, the interview method of qualitative research was adopted. In the way of purposive random sampling, 12 adult subjects whose parental marital conflict scores ranked the top 50% were recruited from the adult subjects surveyed by the questionnaire of Study tow to participate in the follow-up interview. To explore the impact of adolescents’ experience of parental marital conflict on adult depression and loneliness, And seek to understand why this effect persists from adolescence into adulthood. Research Results: In study one, (1) marital conflict, parental psychological control, early adolescent depression and loneliness were significantly and positively correlated with each other; psychological resilience in adolescents was significantly and negatively correlated with parental marital conflict, parental psychological control, early adolescent depression and loneliness. (2) Parental marital conflict can directly affect early adolescent depression and loneliness, and can also indirectly affect early adolescent depression and loneliness through parental psychological control and adolescent resilience. Parental psychological control and adolescent psychological resilience play a chain mediating role between parental marital conflict and early adolescent depression and loneliness. In study tow, (1) marital conflict, parental psychological control, adult depression and loneliness were significantly and positively correlated with each other; psychological resilience in adults was significantly and negatively correlated with parental marital conflict, parental psychological control, adult depression and loneliness. (2) Parental marital conflict can directly affect adult depression and loneliness, and can also indirectly affect adult depression and loneliness through parental psychological control or adult resilience respectively. However, the chain mediating effect of parental psychological control and adult resilience between parental marital conflict and adult depression and loneliness was not significant. (3) The results of the difference test of the mediating effect between adolescents and adults showed that regardless of whether they are adolescents or adults, there is no significant difference in the separate mediating effect of parental psychological control or resilience between parental marital conflict and children depression and loneliness; There are marginally significant differences in psychological control and resilience between adolescents and adults in the chain mediation effect between parental marital conflict and children's depression and loneliness. In study tress, through the analysis and sorting of interview data, six core categories were summarized: influencing factors of parental marital conflict, Adolescents’ experience of marital conflict and its current status, the impact of parental marital conflict on parenting, The impact of parental marital conflict on adolescents’ psychological resilience and the current situation, the impact and current status of parental marital conflict on adolescents’ mental health (depression, loneliness, etc.) and adjustment, Reasons for the impact of parental marital conflict during adolescence on children in adulthood. In conclusion, parental marital conflict can not only directly affect the mental health (including depression and loneliness) and adaptation of adolescents and adults, but also indirectly affect the mental health (including depression and loneliness) and adaptation of adolescents and adults by increasing the negative parenting (including psychological control) or by psychological resilience. The reasons for the impact on children in adulthood are also analyzed. This study reveals the mechanisms by which parental marital conflicts affect children's depression and loneliness, Provides evidence support and recommendations for clinical interventions in marital problems, destructive parenting issues, and resilience and negative emotional experiences in adolescents and adults.
