When will China realize urban-rural integration? A case study of 30 provinces in China

| 英文摘要 | China promises to achieve integrated development of urban and rural areas around 2045, but the optimal path for integrated development of urban and rural areas varies across provinces. This paper uses an evolutionary game model to obtain the Nash equilibrium values of urban and rural areas in each province and analyzes the changes in the peak Nash equilibrium and cumulative Nash equilibrium values of each province under different scenarios, as well as the degree of integrated development of urban and rural areas at the national level. We've found a close correlation between the degree of integrated development and provincial distinctions. Some provinces (Xinjiang, Hainan, Beijing, Shaanxi, and Shanghai) pose challenges to the national integrated development of rural and urban areas, presenting greater difficulty compared to others. Priority development is given to provinces with decreasing urban-rural Nash equilibrium differentials (e.g., Anhui, Chongqing, and others), followed by those where the differentials do not change much (Beijing, Hainan, Shaanxi, and Shanghai). The results reveal that China's Nash equilibrium values range from 0.02439 to 0.02242 between 2016 and 2045, with a maximum cumulative value of 0.02975. |
