英文摘要Hydroclimate variability in Northeast (NE) Asia in the last millennium has exhibited spatial disparities, leading to controversies over the driving mechanisms, primarily due to the lack of high-resolution and precisely dated precipitation reconstructions with well-defined proxies. In this study, we presented a high-resolution precipitation record for the past similar to 1500 years, based on geochemical data from annually-laminated sediments of Lake Sihailongwan in central NE Asia. The results showed wetter conditions during the Little Ice Age (LIA) than during the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA). To further study the spatiotemporal patterns of hydroclimate variability in NE Asia over the last millennium, sixteen well-dated hydroclimate records for this region were collected and compared. The results showed that rainfall in central NE Asia was higher during the LIA than during the MCA, contrasting with the observed pattern in western NE Asia. The differences in precipitation may be attributed to the comprehensive impact of the northeast cold vortex (NECV) and the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM). Modulated by variations in atmospheric circulation systems at middle to high latitudes, the weakening of the NECV led to decreased precipitation in central NE Asia during the MCA, while the strengthening of the NECV led to increased precipitation in this area during the LIA. Meanwhile, the increase in precipitation in western NE Asia during the MCA was linked to the strengthened EASM, while the decrease in precipitation in this area during the LIA was linked to the weakened EASM. The results of this study elucidate the potential role of the NECV in climate variability on centennial timescales.
