Mineralogy and lithium enrichment states of lithium-rich aluminous rocks in the Bijie area, Northwest Guizhou

英文摘要 | With the rapid development of the lithium (Li) battery industry, Li-bearing ores have become critical for technological innovation and economic development. Clay-type Li deposits which are widely distributed with enormous reserves have potential to be important in the development of the Li industry in our country. Investigating the enrichment states of Li in this type of deposits can provide the basis for subsequent lithium extraction. Recently, exceptional Li enrichments have been discovered in aluminum-rich rocks of the Permian Liangshan Formation in the Bijie area of Guizhou Province, China. However, the Li enrichment states of these rocks have been poorly studied, which hinders comprehensive utilization of this potential Li ore. In this study, we conducted mineralogical and chemical analyses on those Li-rich aluminous rocks, from which the following results are obtained: the Li-2 O content in the studied Li-rich aluminum-rich rocks of the Liangshan Formation is about 0.62%; the main mineral components of these rocks include illite, cookeite and diaspore; the Li is primarily hosted within the clay mineral structures of illite and cookeite, with very low content of adsorbed Li. We also used sedimentation fractionation to enrich Li-bearing clay minerals, which successfully increased the contents of clay minerals. This study provides a scientific basis for efficient extraction of clay-type Li resources, which is of importance for promoting the sustainable development of new energy industry. |
