英文摘要 | The spatial structures of intercity cultural diffusion and absorption are crucial for understanding cultural interactions between cities. However, due to the lack of a method to characterize both diffusion and absorption within a unified framework at the intercity level, the bidirectional spatial structures remain unexplored. To fill this gap, we propose a method that utilizes place name symbols, extracted from point of interest data, as proxies for characterizing urban culture. Thereafter, we quantify the intensity of cultural diffusion and absorption through symbol permeation between cities, introducing two new indices: symbol diversity, which measures the variety of cultural interactions, and symbol dispersion, which examines the distributional magnitude of these interactions. We effectively quantify the spatial characteristics of cultural diffusion and absorption and reveal their spatial structures by applying our method to 338 cities across mainland China. Our method not only provides a unified quantitative framework for analyzing the bidirectional spatial structures of cultural diffusion and absorption but also offers valuable strategic insights for policymakers to enhance cultural diversity and urban sustainable development. |
