Bonding strength evolution of the steel-concrete interface exposed to high concentration CO2 up to 1000 kPa partial pressure

| 英文摘要 | In order to investigate the effect of CO2 concentration and water on bonding strength evolution of the steelconcrete interface, this paper studied the carbonation process at the steel-concrete interface of composite samples in dry gas, pure water and 70% relative humidity (RH) environments with 100 kPa, 500 kPa and 1000 kPa CO2 partial pressures. The results showed that the formation of aragonite and Fe(OH)3 at the interface had a negative effect on the bonding strength, while the formation of calcite at the interface had a positive effect on the bonding strength. Also, the reaction environment had a noticeable effect on Fe-bearing corrosion products formed at the interface. In summary, if the concentration and the pressure of CO2 reach a certain level (i.e., 100% concentration and 1000 kPa partial pressure or higher) and abundant water is present, the CO2-induced carbonation of concrete and corrosion of steel can eventually lead to damage at the steel-concrete interface. |
