Efficient and high-quality algorithms for the layout optimization of wave energy converter arrays based on many-body expansion

英文摘要 | Existing studies on layout optimization of wave energy converter (WEC) arrays focus on developing optimization algorithms to maximize power generation. However, few studies investigate why these optimized layouts generate high power, resulting in a high risk of falling into local optima, even with significant computational resources to explore the search space. Therefore, this paper employs many-body expansion to transform the power of an N-WEC array into the superposition of contributions from n-WEC arrays with smaller scales, providing a theoretical foundation for the physical insight into the essence of layout optimization. By truncating and transforming this expansion, it is revealed that the essence of optimizing an N-WEC array layout is to seek the maximum total power of C-N(2) 2-WEC arrays. Such an insight reduces the search space (where each dimension is represented by Q discrete points) from O(Q(2N-2)) to approximately O(Q(2)), significantly improving the search efficiency. Furthermore, it demonstrates that high-quality solutions lie in the high-peak regions of subarray power. Given these, the proposed algorithms based on the insight not only achieve optimized solutions superior to those of global optimization algorithms but also demonstrate significantly faster optimization speeds, reaching up to 971,942 times faster than global optimization algorithms combined with surrogate models. |
