A Compact High-Sensitivity Antenna Sensor Based on Spoof LSPs for Ethanol Sensing

英文摘要 | This article proposed a miniaturized multiband spoof localized surface plasmon (LSP) antenna sensor for ethanol sensing applications. The antenna sensor is composed of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) spiral slotted-ring resonators, a microstrip feeding line, and an integrated microfluidic channel. Spoof LSP modes can be excited by loading MIM double-spiral slotted-ring structures on the radiating patch. Measured results show good agreement with the simulated results with only a slight deviation, thereby confirming the generation of five resonant modes, achieving a maximum measured gain of up to 5.15 dBi. Furthermore, an integrated microfluidic channel with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is placed directly above the double-spiral slotted-ring resonators. The measured results showed that the resonant frequencies corresponding to the LSP modes changed significantly with different concentrations of ethanol solutions injected into the microfluidic channel. The antenna sensor has a sensitivity of 12.9 MHz/1, a maximum quality factor (Q) of 88.7, and a maximum figure of merit (FOM) of 270.4. The proposed antenna sensor offers many advantages, such as compact size, multiple detecting bands, high gain, contactless detection, high sensitivity, low sample requirement, and compatibility with lab-on-a-chip systems. |
