A fish-wearable ion-sensing system for potentiometric monitoring of species relevant to the oceanic carbon cycle

| 英文摘要 | A fish-wearable wireless flexible electrochemical sensor system is described for potentiometric detection of the species related to the carbon cycle in seawater. It consists of a sensing module for simultaneous measurements of Ca2+, pH and CO32-, an electronic module for device control and wireless signal communication, and a polydimethylsiloxane waterproofing band for protection of the electronic module from seawater corrosion and for tight attachment on the fish skin. As the core of the sensing module, a flexible potentiometric sensor array shows a rapid response (<10 s) and high accuracy (mean deviation of 1.5 % compared to the reference method). For a proof-of-concept experiment, the proposed wearable sensing system has been deployed in the Yellow Sea on a marine fish (Sciaenops ocellatus). The obtained results verify the capability of the proposed sensing system for the potentiometric monitoring of the oceanic carbon cycle. We believe that such a fish-wearable sensing system can be used as a promising tool for potentiometric detection of various chemicals in the marine environment. |
