| 英文摘要 | In the context of compounded energy shortages and growing climate vulnerability, mountainous regions are grappling with formidable dilemmas and urgent challenges in pursuing a clean and low-carbon energy transition. A limited systematic understanding of household energy consumption patterns and related carbon emissions has become a key bottleneck hindering the development of targeted transition policies. Taking the Tibetan Plateau as a representative region, this study draws on a survey of 1808 rural households across an altitudinal gradient of 1500-4500 m to systematically examine the current status of rural household energy use, transition pathways, and the impacts on carbon emissions. The results indicate that: (1) space heating is the primary household energy-consuming activity, still almost entirely dependent on solid fuels, with solid fuels accounting for as much as 65.7 % of cooking activities, highlighting the severity of energy poverty; (2) the altitudinal gradient exacerbates household energy poverty, revealing a vertical zonation pattern in which total energy consumption decreases with elevation while fuel types become increasingly primitive; and (3) in low-altitude areas, the shift in heating fuels from biomass to coal represents a high-carbon pathway, leading to a rebound in total household carbon emissions and forming a structural trap where the emission reduction benefits of clean cooking are offset by high-carbon heating. This study provides a scientific basis for formulating differentiated energy transition policies across elevation zones on the Tibetan Plateau and offers important insights for promoting sustainable development in mountainous regions that are inhabited by over 500 million people worldwide. |
