| 英文摘要 | Dry season length (DSL) is important for the stability of natural ecosystems and the availability of watershed water resources. It is changing due to climate change and human activities. Watersheds are fundamental hydrologic units for managing water resources. Little attention has been given to the changes in global DSL at watershed scales. Here, we investigated the changes in DSL across 845 watersheds worldwide from 1980 to 2020. We found that 18.8% of watersheds exhibited a significantly increasing trend in DSL with 4.6-27.2 days per decade. Among these watersheds with significantly prolonged dry seasons, 22.0% were dominated by advanced dry season onset (DSO) dates, 45.9% were dominated by delayed dry season end (DSE) dates, and 32.1% were dominated by advanced DSO and delayed DSE together. In terms of spatial distribution, the watersheds with significantly increased DSL are primarily located in the southwestern part of North America, the western Amazon, the central and northwestern part of Argentina, West Africa, Central Africa, South Africa, the northern part of the Arabian Peninsula, Mongolia, and the Yellow River Basin. These watersheds experiencing significantly increased DSL require urgent attention to tackle the challenges facing natural ecosystems and human communities. |
