英文摘要Soil erosion on the road (thereafter called road erosion) is widely spread in landscapes that causes soil loss, water pollution, and environmental damage. Although many studies on road erosion have been documented across nearly all climatic zones in the world, road erosion remains severely underrepresented. The objectives of this article were to (1) outline the characteristics of road erosion and study methods and techniques; (2) examine its on-and off-site impacts; (3) discuss its influencing factors, and finally (4) recommend soil control measures for different types of roads. A literature review demonstrated that road erosion rates were frequently several orders of magnitude higher than those in the surrounding areas. The annual erosion rates of roadbed ranged from 0.4 to 810.0 kg m-2. The mechanism and processes of road erosion as influenced by climate, weather, soil texture, road density, location, road type, and human usage and management were analyzed. Furthermore, road erosion models were reviewed, and future improvements were recommended, including the incorporation of road-specific components into existing models and the strengthening of field monitoring efforts in the context of climate change. Besides the significance of road erosion and its on-and off-site effects on surrounding environment, this article further underscored the importance of road erosion monitoring and gave road erosion control measures, especially for the unpaved roads.
