英文摘要Sympatric species coexisting in the same geographic region and habitat offer a unique opportunity to enhance our understanding of the effects of shared historical events on species evolution and distribution. We compared the phylogeographic patterns of two sympatric clams, Indoaustriella scarlatoi and Rugalucina vietnamica, by analyzing the spatial genetic diversity of these species focusing on variations in the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI), 16S rRNA, and 12S rRNA genes. We observed significant isolation-by-distance (IBD) effects on the two clams in South China. Tajima's D and Fu's FS tests yielded negative and significant values and the mismatch distributions exhibited unimodal shapes, indicating sudden population expansion events for both species. Bayesian skyline analyses further support these conclusions. Our findings suggest that both species respond consistently to the same geographical and historical environments. R. vietnamica exhibited relatively shallow genetic differentiation, while I. scarlatoi showed a greater divergence between groups on either side of the Qiongzhou Strait, indicating a more complex genetic structure. We believe that the distinct phylogeographic structures of sympatric species are resulted from the combined effects of microhabitat differentiation and dispersal capability.
