Study on the influence of Si on the microstructure and mechanical properties of DZ125 recycled alloy

英文摘要The microstructure of DZ125 alloy remelted material with varying Si contents was observed and analyzed using optical, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopes. We investigated the correlation between Si and changes in mechanical properties, focusing on Silicon's impact on the alloy's microstructure and mechanical attributes. Results revealed that as Si content increases in the as-cast microstructure, the gamma' phase size becomes finer, with minimal effects on its volume fraction. Carbide content and size increased, showing a gradual concentration in size distribution, while gamma + gamma' eutectic content and dendrite arm spacing remained largely unaffected. Following standard heat treatment, carbides transformed into fine granular particles, the gamma' phase size refined further, and both gamma' phase and gamma + gamma' eutectic content decreased, with no significant dendrite arm spacing changes. The influence of Si on the heat-treated microstructure followed a similar pattern to that of the as-cast condition but was more pronounced. Room temperature tensile tests indicated that increasing Si content initially enhanced elongation at break and reduction of area at fracture, peaking at 0.08 % Si, before declining. Dimple count increased, while tensile strength remained mostly unaffected. Stress rupture tests at 760 degrees C/725 MPa and 980 degrees C/235 MPa showed that the addition of Si significantly enhanced the endurance performance, with an improvement of over 20 %.
